WHY I’M RUNNING
“Southfield is Home”
I’ve called Southfield home for 58 years. I spent my professional life serving the children, youth, and parents in the Southfield Public Schools, beginning as a teacher in 1967 and retiring in 2011 as the Deputy Superintendent. I was elected to the Southfield City Council in 2001 and served the city in that capacity until I was elected Mayor in 2015.
It has been the honor of my life to serve as the Mayor of Southfield. I love this city and have spent my entire adult life here. Southfield is known as “The Center of It All,” and that has certainly been true for me professionally and personally. I know that is also true for the many people who live and work here.
Through my involvement in the city, starting as a neighborhood and environmental activist, I know this city extremely well. I’ve walked every street in Southfield and penned three Southfield histories. I consider myself a man of action and a collaborator. I’ve had years of involvement in local civic organizations including the Southfield Historical Society, the Southfield-Lathrup Democratic Club, South Oakland NAACP, the Magnolia Neighborhood Association, the Southfield Goodfellows, Southfield Parks & Garden Club, Volunteer Day, the Friends of Southfield Public Arts, and the Southfield Non-Profit Neighborhood Corporation Board. Additionally, I am as a founding member of the Southfield Martin Luther King Task Force. I have had the pleasure to see firsthand the generosity, spirit, courage, and determination of my fellow Southfield residents. I am truly dedicated to this city and am inspired every day to be the best public servant I can be. I strongly value the trust that the citizens of this city have placed in me.
When it comes down to it, a city isn’t just a collection of office towers, apartment buildings, and single-family homes. A city is truly made up of people. Southfield is a city, but it is also a community. Neighbors and family and friends and laborers and business owners working together every day to keep Southfield’s heart pumping at “The Center of It All.”
I ask for your support in my re-election campaign. I know Southfield very well and how our local government functions. Southfield has been through a lot since I was first elected in 2001 but we’ve seen how important it is to have sincere, responsive, committed, capable, and honest leaders. I strive every day to be that leader for everyone in Southfield.
Sincerely,
Ken

On the Issues
Be it an apartment, condo, town house, or single-family home, everyone deserves to experience the quiet enjoyment of their home. Coinciding with that are dependable city services, safe streets, and well kept neighborhoods. Mayor Siver stands for that and works daily to protect what he terms, the “Southfield Standard.”
Beyond that, during his entire tenure as mayor, he has worked to make Southfield a vibrant city that attracts residents, business, and visitors. Working with the Southfield Planning Department, the City Center Advisory Board, the Downtown Development Authority, the Southfield Public Arts Commission, and the Friends of Southfield Public Arts, the face of Southfield has dramatically changed with more interesting streetscapes, pathways, and public art.
Essential to the success of the city is the commercial sector. Mayor Siver works to attract businesses large and small to Southfield and supports our business incubator, the Accelerator, and Michigan Works!
